All I Really Need to Know I learned in Guild Wars
(There’s that saying, “there is nothing new under the sun”. My apologies up front if a thread like this already exists or if I’m posting this in the wrong area. No offense taken if this is moved/deleted at the discretion of a moderator.)
Pressing on to the nature of this post! I remember a book coming out a while back called, “All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten”, and thought it might be fun to start a thread called, “All I Really Need to Know I learned in Guild Wars”, as we transition from GW to GW2, taking note of those little life’s lessons that we owe to our beloved Guild Wars™.
DISCLAIMER: I realize that Guild Wars is just a game. My intent is to inject a little lighthearted fun into the day.
This is a pretty open ended thread, but I’ll post some examples as to what I sort of had in mind when I posted this.
Lesson 74: “Never Anger a Norn” (an NPC response by some Norn upon interaction)
Sometimes people are just bigger than you. And stronger. And irritable. And looking for a fight. Guild Wars has taught me that Bear will be pleased when we simply just let sleeping dogs lay.
Lesson 231: “I AM THE STRONGEST!” (PvE Skill)
Sometimes, exercise of a skill begins with shouting out something at the top of your lungs. If we really believe we’re lacking in strength (in anything), can we really blame others for believing the same about us? Guild Wars has taught me that most forms of self-doubt can be overcome (with proper medication, but also…) through the flexing of arms and repeated shouts of self-affirmation.
Lesson 43: Kappa Shell Soup (prepared by Imperial Chef Jiong for the Great Celestial)
Sure, how good can Kraken Eye really be? For that matter, mantis pincers, naga hides, and archaic kappa shells hardly sound like they contribute to culinary delight. Yet, Guild Wars has taught me that sometimes the “whole” can be much, much, much more than the sum of its parts. The kitchen-jutsu of Imperial Chef Jiong was able to transform raw sewage into a feast capable of enticing a Great Celestial from his heavenly abode.
Lesson 3958: “Kiiiiillroooooy Stooooonekiiiiin!!” (the Battle-cry of Kilroy Stoneskin during quest: Kilroy Stonekin's Punch-Out Extravaganza!)
The exuberance of some people is infectious. We might not think too much before befriending an older, shorter, vengeful dwarf. And we might have second thoughts when he charges alone into a group of goons, saying in all seriousness, “Allow me to introduce you to my friends. Lefty, Righty, give our friend Fronis a proper welcome!” Guild Wars has taught me that sometimes, being a true friend means running in after them, doing the same, and sometimes we even enjoy doing it. “You’re insane, Kilroy. I love it.”
Your turn! Whether from skill, cut-scene, NPC response, holiday event, what is it that you’ve learned?

I discussed this with my wife the other day. Guild Wars is a really good lesson that there are no easy ways to make money they aren't instantly exploited by everyone else almost instantly. Next time someone tries to rope you into some pyramid scheme seminar promising to make you rich remember this. If there are simple ways to make money, EVERYONE will do it.

Grinding is booring, except, if it's FoWSC.
Some things just don't get booring after 200+ runs...
